Mission Statement
Research and practice concerned with improving learning must consider diversity and equality for both the education, and other corporate, workforces as well as the professional training routes to enter them. Diversity and equality are not options. UNESCO’s declaration, “Towards 2030: a new vision for education” directs us to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. The cloud offers an arena for practitioners and researchers in all types of educational organizations and corporate learning and development settings to present and share ideas and knowledge through research projects, practices and models encompassing national contexts, organizational structures, cultures and practices, and in individual praxis and interaction. The network supports work in broad contexts including, but also going beyond, gender, ethnicity and race, whilst being open to questioning whether these categories are immutable in professional settings seeking to improve learning. Discussions and research about this theme can raise sensitive and challenging issues therefore the cloud encourages practices and ideas that enhance individuals’ participation and feelings of belonging by encouraging diversity of thought.

Webinar: 'Inclusive education: higher and vocational education'
There will be presentations from Nick Gee (Birmingham City University, UK), Sibel Inci (Kocaeli University, Türkiye) & Kirsty Ruthven (Head of Education, Lifting Limits CIO, UK) discussing 'Inclusive education: higher and vocational education'.
- Nick Gee (Birmingham City University, UK and EAPRIL chair) ‘Thinking in 3D… beyond the text book ethos of inclusive practice’. In order to achieve real and lasting change through emotionally intelligent inclusivity we need to stop, step back, think and act in a more immersive way. In this session I will map out a journey linking thought to feeling and action to impact to allow a deeper understanding of what it really means to be truly inclusive.
- Sibel Inci (Kocaeli University, Türkiye and joint coordinator of EAPRIL Cloud 8). ‘Enhancing Preservice Teachers' Perspectives on Inclusion’. Teachers and their attitudes are seen as the key to inclusive education. During this presentation, I will illustrate how an intervention could affect preservice teachers' opinions on inclusion and the implications for professional formation and development.
- Kirsty Ruthven (Head of Education, Lifting Limits CIO, UK) 'Working with teachers: Gender equality in and through education'. Lifting Limits supports schools with gender equitable practice through the whole-school approach. In this presentation I will share more around our work with early years and primary school teachers in England.
The final part of the session will provide the opportunities for participants to give updates on their work and to discuss possible collaboration as well as plans for the annual EAPRIL conference in November 2023.
